On May 28, our office in Bolzano became a meeting point for the Cloud Native Trento community. On the agenda: cloud native technologies, Kubernetes, platform engineering, and conversations between people who work with these technologies every day.
As an official Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) community group, Cloud Native Trento brings together professionals, technology enthusiasts, and practitioners to exchange experiences, discuss emerging trends, and learn from one another.
The meetup welcomed participants from across the region and created the perfect environment for technical exchange, networking, and engaging discussions.
Agenda Highlights
The evening kicked off with a recap of the key announcements and developments from KubeCon + CloudNativeCon Europe 2026, giving attendees an overview of the trends, innovations, and conversations shaping the cloud native ecosystem.
Two highly relevant topics for modern platform and infrastructure teams then took center stage.
“Cache me if you can: P2P Image Sharing in Kubernetes”
Philip Laine, Senior Platform Engineer, open-source maintainer, and creator of Spegel, explored different strategies for improving container image distribution in Kubernetes environments.
The session examined the limitations of traditional external image registries and presented alternative approaches to improve resilience, boost performance, and reduce deployment times. Attendees gained practical insights into image caching solutions, pull-through mirrors, preloaded machine images, and peer-to-peer technologies such as Spegel, Kraken, and Dragonfly.
“LLM-Aware Load Balancing on Kubernetes”
Davide Sbetti, Software Engineer at Würth IT Italy, shared an overview of approaches for managing Large Language Model (LLM) workloads on Kubernetes.
As AI-powered applications become increasingly common, infrastructure teams face new challenges related to resource allocation, scalability, and workload distribution. The session explored load-balancing techniques designed to support AI workloads efficiently in Kubernetes environments.
More Than Just Talks
The cloud native ecosystem thrives on openness and collaboration. Many of the most interesting ideas emerge through communities where people share experiences, discuss challenges, and learn from each other.
That is exactly what initiatives like Cloud Native Trento are all about. They create space for practical insights, open discussions, and meaningful exchanges between people working on modern platforms and infrastructure every day.
For Würth IT Italy, the meetup was a great opportunity to welcome the local tech community into our office and be part of those conversations.
A sincere thank you to Philip Laine and Davide Sbetti for sharing their expertise, and to everyone who joined us and contributed to the discussions throughout the evening.
The presentations ended at 7:30 PM. The conversations kept going.
